Type Your Abstract HeMedication non-adherence remains a significant healthcare concern, particularly among older adults and individuals managing long-term or multiple medication regimens, as forgetfulness, complex dosing schedules and difficulties in organising medicines may result in missed, delayed or incorrect doses. To address this problem, KasihDose (Smart Arduino Pill Dispenser) was developed as a low-cost, user-friendly and locally fabricated assistive healthcare innovation aimed at supporting safer, more systematic and independent medication management. The prototype integrates an Arduino UNO microcontroller, liquid-crystal display, relay-based control system, reset push-button and a mechanical rotary tray containing pre-arranged pill compartments. A design-and-development methodology was employed, encompassing problem identification, conceptual and mechanical design, electronic integration, Arduino programming, prototype fabrication, system assembly and preliminary functional testing. When a programmed dose is due, the controller activates the dispensing mechanism, rotates the tray and aligns the designated compartment with the dispensing outlet, while the display provides relevant system information. Preliminary testing demonstrated successful integration of the electronic and mechanical components and consistent operation of the programmed dispensing sequence, indicating the technical feasibility of the proposed system. KasihDose has the potential to reduce users’ reliance on memory, simplify medication routines and enhance patient independence while supporting caregivers. Future improvements include a real-time clock module, audible and visual alerts, dispensing-verification sensors, dose-history recording, refill reminders, caregiver notifications and Internet of Things connectivity. Overall, KasihDose demonstrates how affordable Arduino-based automation can provide a practical, scalable and user-centred foundation for assistive medication management.
