MoodMatch is an innovative, free-to-use web application designed to address decision fatigue and endless scrolling by providing real-time, mood-aligned media recommendations. Unlike conventional streaming platforms that require users to search through extensive content libraries, MoodMatch connects the user’s current emotional state, goal, preferred rhythm, language, streaming platforms, and media format to generate personalized movie and song recommendations. Developed using Google AI Studio and serverless Google Cloud infrastructure, MoodMatch guides users through a quick six-step quiz before generating suitable entertainment choices across Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Prime Video. Its dynamic “Next Pick” feature provides alternative recommendations, while direct links enable users to access their selected content quickly. Survey findings showed that 78% of respondents experienced choice overload, while 88% reported saving more than 15 minutes of browsing time when using MoodMatch, demonstrating its potential to simplify entertainment discovery and reduce browsing time. MoodMatch also promotes age-appropriate and inclusive discovery through child and teen content filters and multilingual options including Tamil, Malay, English, and Kurdish, while accommodating diverse musical interests such as K-pop. Conceived and developed through collaboration, perseverance, and continuous problem-solving, MoodMatch transforms entertainment discovery from a lengthy search process into a personalized, mood-based recommendation experience. By connecting how users feel with what they watch and listen to, MoodMatch aims to turn endless scrolling into meaningful discovery.
