Tato Ruler is an innovative environmental project that explores the transformation of discarded potato peels into an alternative material for manufacturing school rulers. This project addresses the increasing generation of organic kitchen waste and the widespread use of conventional plastic stationery products. The main objective of Tato Ruler is to investigate the potential of potato-peel-based materials in developing a functional, more sustainable ruler. The innovation explores processing potato peels into a paste, combining them with suitable ingredients to improve material properties, and shaping the mixture into a ruler prototype.Through the development process, pupils investigate material flexibility, strength, durability and measurement accuracy. The project integrates Science, Mathematics, Design and Technology, encouraging experimentation, critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving.Tato Ruler supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting waste valorisation and practical STEM learning. In conclusion, Tato Ruler demonstrates how discarded potato peels can be explored as an alternative raw material for everyday stationery, encouraging young learners to develop sustainable innovations.
