Energy wastage caused by unnecessary operation of electrical appliances remains a common issue in homes, educational institutions, and workplaces. Lights, fans, and other electrical devices are often left switched on even when spaces are unoccupied, resulting in increased energy consumption and higher operating costs. To address this challenge, this project presents the development of an Intelligent Energy Conservation System based on an ESP32 microcontroller.

The proposed system integrates multiple sensors, including occupancy detection and ambient light sensors, to monitor environmental conditions and human presence in real time. By analysing data collected from these sensors, the system automatically controls electrical appliances according to occupancy status and lighting requirements. When no occupants are detected, connected devices such as lighting and ventilation systems are automatically switched off, thereby reducing unnecessary energy usage while maintaining user comfort and safety.

The ESP32 microcontroller serves as the central processing unit, enabling intelligent decision-making and seamless wireless communication. Through Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, users can remotely monitor and control the system using smartphones or web-based platforms, providing greater flexibility and convenience.

Performance evaluation conducted in various indoor environments demonstrated reliable operation, accurate occupancy detection, and effective energy-saving capabilities. The system successfully reduced unnecessary power consumption while ensuring a comfortable and responsive indoor environment.

This project offers a practical, cost-effective, and scalable solution for smart energy management. By promoting efficient energy utilisation and supporting sustainable living practices, the proposed system contributes towards environmental conservation and the development of smarter, greener communities.
