The proposed innovation centres on the development of a Virtual Reality (VR) training system specifically designed for intern doctors to practice obstetric and surgical procedures, including childbirth, caesarean sections, and other critical operations. The rationale behind this project is rooted in the pressing need for safer, more accessible and more effective training methods in medical education. Traditional training approaches such as lectures, textbooks, mannequins and supervised practice are limited in their ability to replicate the complexity and unpredictability of real-life medical scenarios. Moreover, the ethical concerns surrounding live patient training, coupled with the scarcity of opportunities to practice rare or emergency procedures, create significant barriers to skill acquisition for intern doctors. This VR system aims to bridge these gaps by offering immersive, interactive simulations that replicate the sensory, cognitive and emotional demands of real-world medical practice. By integrating haptic feedback, decision-based branching scenarios and AI-driven performance analytics, the system provides a holistic training environment where doctors can repeatedly practice procedures without risk to patients. The innovation also emphasizes scalability and accessibility, ensuring that medical institutions worldwide regardless of resource levels can adopt and benefit from the technology. Beyond obstetrics and surgery, the platform has the potential to expand into other specialties, such as cardiology, emergency medicine and orthopaedics, thereby creating a comprehensive ecosystem for medical training. The anticipated outcomes of this project include improved confidence among intern doctors, reduced medical errors, enhanced patient safety and cost savings for hospitals and universities. By aligning with global priorities such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), the project demonstrates both social relevance and long-term sustainability. In addition, the commercial viability of the system is reinforced by its adaptability to different markets, its potential for subscription-based licensing and its compatibility with emerging technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Ultimately, this innovation represents a paradigm shift in medical education, combining cutting-edge technology with practical training needs to create a safer, smarter and more effective pathway for the doctors of tomorrow.
