Earthloop Pots is an innovative, eco-friendly project that transforms discarded banana peels into biodegradable planting pots. This innovation addresses the growing problem of organic waste and the environmental impact of conventional plastic nursery pots. The project aims to promote sustainable gardening practices by introducing an affordable, environmentally responsible alternative using readily available natural materials.Earthloop Pots are developed by processing banana peels and combining them with soil-based materials to form plantable pots. These pots are designed to support early plant growth while gradually decomposing in the soil, potentially reducing plastic waste and contributing organic matter to the growing environment. This innovation integrates Science, environmental education and creative problem-solving through hands-on experimentation. Pupils explore waste management, decomposition, plant growth and sustainable product development. The project also encourages critical thinking, teamwork and environmental responsibility.Earthloop Pots supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 15: Life on Land by encouraging organic waste reuse and environmentally responsible gardening. In conclusion, Earthloop Pots demonstrates how everyday kitchen waste can be transformed into a useful gardening product, encouraging young innovators to turn environmental challenges into sustainable solutions.
