Abstract
Lumeera is an eco-friendly fire starter briquette developed to transform agricultural and organic waste into a practical and sustainable energy solution. The innovation primarily utilizes oil palm fibre as its main raw material, combined with dried orange peels and lemongrass to enhance combustion characteristics and produce a pleasant natural aroma. Beeswax is incorporated as a natural binding agent, improving the structural integrity of the briquette while supporting ignition. The project addresses the issue of underutilized oil palm biomass and organic waste disposal by converting these materials into a value-added product. Through a simple production process involving drying, grinding, mixing, moulding, and curing, Lumeera produces a compact briquette capable of igniting easily and burning for an extended period. In addition to reducing agricultural waste, Lumeera offers an environmentally conscious alternative to conventional fire starters by minimizing reliance on synthetic materials and promoting the use of renewable resources. The inclusion of orange peel and lemongrass also contributes to a more pleasant user experience during combustion and works as mosquito repellent too. Overall, Lumeera demonstrates the potential of waste-to-wealth innovation by combining sustainability, functionality, and affordability into a single product suitable for household use, camping, barbecues and emergency fire-starting applications.
