PINEPURE

PINEPURE is an innovative personal care product developed using pineapple crown waste as a potential source of bioactive compounds for natural deodorant formulation. Pineapple leaves are often discarded after harvesting, contributing to agricultural waste. This project aims to transform these underutilised agricultural residues into a value-added product that supports sustainable practices and the circular economy. The formulation incorporates pineapple crown extract as the main plant-based ingredient, together with magnesium chloride, hyaluronic acid, pineapple essential oil and a suitable preservative system. Hyaluronic acid is included to help maintain skin moisture, while the aromatic ingredients provide a refreshing scent. The project focuses on developing the formulation and evaluating its pH, physical stability and potential to reduce body odour. Its antibacterial effectiveness and product safety will require appropriate testing before any claims can be confirmed. PINEPURE has the potential to promote the utilisation of pineapple agricultural waste, encourage environmentally responsible product development and create new opportunities for value-added products within the pineapple industry. Through the integration of science, technology and sustainability, PINEPURE supports the principles of responsible consumption and production under Sustainable Development Goal 12.
