Learning Gamelan Melayu can be challenging for non-music preservice teachers who must coordinate numerical notation, rhythmic structure, instrumental techniques, and ensemble timing. Skor Lidi Visual is a teaching innovation that spatially aligns numbered notes with beats, bars, phrases, rests, and instrument-specific patterns, particularly saron cincang. Rather than replacing traditional notation or practitioner-led learning, it provides temporary visual scaffolding through demonstration, guided rehearsal, and gradual reduction of score reliance. A pilot, single-group mixed-methods formative evaluation involved 18 preservice teachers from five non-music disciplines following a three-day Gamelan Melayu workshop. Participants completed a structured questionnaire combining rating-scale and open-ended responses. They reported high clarity and usability (M = 4.70/5), general learning support (M = 4.47/5), and saron cincang support (M = 4.48/5). Following repeated practice, 77.8% reported consulting the score only for selected sections or as an initial reference, although none reported performing entirely without it. Skor Lidi Visual offers a practical way to support entry-level Gamelan Melayu learning while retaining its aural, embodied, and cultural dimensions. Further performance-based evaluation is needed to establish effectiveness.
