The Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve suggests that newly acquired information gradually fades from memory unless it is actively reinforced. Our initial survey revealed that students experienced difficulties retaining information they had recently learned, highlighting the need for a more effective and engaging memorisation strategy. To address this challenge, SMART-17 was developed as an innovative flashcard-based learning tool that integrates spaced repetition with the Leitner System to strengthen memory retention. Algebra was selected as the initial focus due to the difficulties commonly experienced by students in understanding and remembering its concepts and procedures. An evaluation involving 25 respondents showed encouraging results, with 84.6% reporting that SMART-17 was very useful and 15 respondents awarding the innovation a perfect score of 10 out of 10. The findings also indicated improved classroom participation and better retention of learned information. SMART-17 demonstrates the potential of combining structured repetition with interactive learning to create a simple, practical, and engaging approach to memorisation. Future development aims to expand SMART-17 across other subjects and learning areas, supporting broader application in teaching and learning.
