The Integrated Digital Reading System (IDRS) is a comprehensive digital platform designed to improve student assessment and performance monitoring across multiple subjects in primary schools. Developed using Canva’s interactive coding platform, the system addresses the limitations of manual paper-based assessment, which is often time-consuming, prone to errors, and difficult to manage. By digitizing assessment records, IDRS provides a more efficient, accurate, and organized approach to managing student learning data.
The system stores student information from Year 1 to Year 6 by class. Teachers log in using secure usernames and passwords, select their class and subject, and assess students in real time. Reading assessments for Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Tamil, and English cover letters, words, phrases, sentences, passages, paragraphs, and complete texts. Student performance is categorized as Weak, Moderate, Good, or Excellent, with results recorded instantly.
In mathematics, teachers evaluate students’ mastery of multiplication tables, while science assessments focus on the 12 science process skills. An administrator module enables resource centre and media teachers to manage data, generate reports, and analyze student performance monthly, quarterly, or annually.
IDRS offers automated record management, real-time progress tracking, multi-subject integration, and accessibility through laptops and mobile devices. Teachers can monitor individual achievement, review learning progress, and generate reports to support data-driven teaching. Trial implementation demonstrated improved assessment accuracy, faster reporting, increased teacher confidence, and greater student engagement. By reducing administrative workload, IDRS allows teachers to focus on teaching and learning while supporting informed instructional decisions. Overall, IDRS is a practical, scalable, and cost-effective innovation that strengthens literacy, numeracy, and science assessment in primary schools.
