Oregano-Infused Eco Face Mask from Banana Stem Fibers

The growing interest in green and eco-friendly materials has led people to explore new ways to use farm waste. Banana stems, which usually get thrown out, are rich in cellulose and could be used to make environmentally friendly paper. This study looked into making a biodegradable face mask using banana stem fibers and oregano leaves. The goal was to take advantage of the antibacterial properties of oregano and the eco-friendliness of banana stem fibres to create a face mask that's not only effective but also doesn't harm the environment. The aim of this research was to design and test the effectiveness of a green face mask made from banana stem fibres infused with oregano for its potential antibacterial benefits and biodegradability.

To collect the banana stems, they were gathered from local farms and carefully cleaned. Then, they were processed to extract the fibres from the stem. This involved chopping the stems into pieces and crushing them, followed by a treatment with a special chemical called sodium hydroxide that helps separate the useful fibres from any unwanted material. The fibres were found to be of high quality and suitable for making paper. The paper made from banana stem fibres was also shown to be biodegradable, compostable, and in line with sustainability goals. Using banana stems for paper production can help reduce waste from farms and cut down on our reliance on wood-based paper, which comes from forests. This method uses less energy and has a smaller carbon footprint compared to traditional paper production methods.

Overall, this study shows that banana stems are a good source of material for making high-quality, eco-friendly paper. This process helps with sustainable waste management and provides a renewable alternative to traditional paper sources. It's a win-win for the environment and our efforts to reduce our impact on it.
