The increasing generation of organic waste and the environmental risks associated with conventional batteries highlight the need for sustainable alternative energy sources. This study aims to develop BIO-ECOCELL, an environmentally friendly alternative battery based on banana peel eco-enzyme. The research employed a laboratory experimental method with a quantitative approach. The study consisted of three main stages: preparation of banana peel eco-enzyme, assembly of electrochemical cells, and performance testing. The eco-enzyme was produced by fermenting banana peels, sugar, and water at a ratio of 3:1:10 for 90 days. After fermentation, the solution was filtered and its acidity was measured using a universal indicator. The electrochemical cell was constructed using magnesium (Mg) as the anode and iron (Fe) as the cathode, with banana peel eco-enzyme serving as the electrolyte. Several electrochemical cells were connected in series to increase the electrical output. The performance of BIO-ECOCELL was evaluated by measuring open-circuit voltage and electric current using a digital multimeter, followed by an application test using a wall clock. The experimental results showed that three electrochemical cells produced a voltage of 3.8 V and were capable of operating a wall clock. These findings indicate that banana peel eco-enzyme has potential as an electrolyte in an alternative battery system using Mg–Fe electrodes, while supporting the conversion of organic waste into useful energy.
